What is Counselling?

Counselling is a confidential process where you can talk with a trained professional about your thoughts, feelings and challenges. It helps you gain insight, develop coping strategies and improve your emotional well-being.

How do I know if I need Counselling?

You might benefit from counselling if:

  • You feel overwhelmed, anxious or experiencing low mood

  • You’re struggling with relationships

  • You’re experiences trauma or loss

  • You’re facing life changes

  • You would like a better understanding of yourself

 

What would the first session involve?

  • A welcome to your session

  • Talking through our contract and answer any questions

  • A brief talk about how the process works and what brings you to counselling

  • A chance for you to see how you feel during your first session

 

Is everything I say confidential?​

Yes, with some exceptions, counsellors may need to break confidentiality if:

  • You are at serious risk of harming yourself or others

  • There is safeguarding concerns regarding a child or vulnerable person

  • A court order or the law

  • If there is a disclosure of criminal activities

 

How many sessions do I need?

This varies from each individual, some may feel a few sessions are enough, others may continue for much longer. It can also depend on your goals and complexity of the issues.

What if I don’t know what to say?

This is completely normal. We are trained to help guide the conversation to help you explore your thoughts at your own pace.
